If it’s to be it’s up to me.
Very often we face challenges in life and we are at crossroads of life where we ought to decide the course of action to be taken.
Life is full of challenges and it is never smooth sailing.
All of us have been watching the foot ball World cup matches.
This got concluded just yesterday night with Spain beating Holland 1 nil.
What a match it was.
Spain could not score the goal in the first 90 minutes.
The game went for extra time of 30 minutes and then the Never Say Die Spain managed to get a goal.
If you see the teams both Holland & Spain were underdogs and have never won a World cup.
Big and Great Teams like Brazil, Germany, Argentina, France, and Italy were heavyweights and have won the cup previously.
Italy was the champions in the last World cup defeating France.
What happened in the matches?
Brazil was humiliated by Holland, Germany defeated the Great Argentina by 4 Goals. France and Italy former champions were not in the reckoning at all in the second round.
Where were the giants of yesteryears, all fell of like nine pins by new teams which were not even considered by the football loving fans to be in the reckoning for reaching the second round leave aside winning the cup?
What is that which makes the difference between well established teams and teams which were not known.
Well established teams had a huge responsibility and they were overshadowed by their glorious past, and they were nervous of losing the games.
Consider the teams who did not have a chequered past, they had nothing to lose and hence were not nervous to perform.
See the great Players like Fabregas, Thierry Henry, Van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Christiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Lionel Messi most of them did not score goals, though they may have contributed to their side’s win.
Mueller of Germany, Sneider of Holland, Diego Forlan of Uruguay, were top scorers. Mueller was a name not heard before the world cup, this young man just 20 Years old has won the Golden Boot award.Sneider was not in the reckoning at all.
What great games these players played, they outperformed the veterans.
We often wonder whether experience is everything in our lives.
I don’t think so, as experienced players have not performed very well.
What is that makes a player perform and shine.
Merely experience cannot bring about the magic though it can give some insight into the game.
What matters is the grit, attitude and the will power to excel.
This plays a great role in our lives.
Next time you find that you are in a difficult spot don’t lose hope, have the courage to face it, beat it, and keep your attitude to win and then it would happen.
Whatever you vividly Imagine, Ardently Desire, Sincerely believe, and enthusiastically act upon would definitely happen.
Lastly it it’s to be it’s up to me.

If You think You Can, You Can but If you think You Can't then You Can't.
In life one encounters numerous problems, but the ability to overcome these problems are within us.
Remember if one gives up soon and stops trying, then there is no hope for solution.
Take the case of a cricket match.
All of us love the game of cricket. The IPL is on in India and eight teams are vying with each other for the trophy.
Rajasthan Royals was the First season winner followed by Deccan Chargers in the second season.
In the third season, Rajasthan Royals had already lost first five games and were down and under.
This did not deter them from having hopes.
The next five games have been won by them and they are a force to reckon with.
Take the case of the game held between Rajasthan royals and Deccan Chargers on 05.04.10.
Rajasthan Royals had batted first, scored a meager 160 runs in 20 over’s and the opposition Deccan Chargers had come in to bat.
Deccan has the best of Players like Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds, and Rohit Sharma.
The Deccan team came in to play and lost valuable wickets and was at one stage 56 for three.
Things looked glum; they were struggling to get runs. Rohit fought valiantly and was taking the score towards the winning moment.
It was his will power and confidence that kept him going. However his team mates could not sustain the onslaught of a good bowling by the Rajasthan Royals.
Shane Warne showed his captaincy his never say die attitude despite Rohit playing so well, brought him luck.
He changed his bowlers so well and placed his fielders at strategic spots so that the catches could be taken easily. It looked as if the game was being orchestrated by him and he knew exactly where the ball would be hit by the batsman.
The wickets started tumbling. The fielding was excellent and the run out of Harmeet Singh was too good to believe.
The score was inching towards the Royals target; there were only two runs and three balls.
The last batsman Mr. Ojha came in to bat, and struck a low pitched ball of Trivedi and the catch was taken at the boundary by the fieldsman.
There was joy everywhere for those who supported Royals; the team was exuberant and lauding Shane’s captaincy.
It was Shane’s efforts in mobilizing his boys, his directions, his decisions, and finally his bowling that did the trick.
Shane’s bowling resulted in 4 for 20 runs, remarkable for 40 Years old cricketer.
It was any day a Deccan riot to be unfolded with great batting stalwarts but at the end despite a poor score, Royals managed to win.
That’s why we say If You think You Can You Can, but If You think you can’t, then God help you.

Being Good Mannered
Being Good Mannered.
Have you ever noticed your back when you are exiting a doorway and the door just slams shut behind you?
Very often this happens and we fail to notice this.
Just imagine somebody coming behind you and the door swings back at him/her and he/she has to duck from the door slamming against his/her face.
This is the simplest care one needs to take whilst going through the door.
Next time stop before leaving the door and see behind you, if there is somebody approaching, spend few moments to keep the door open so that the person behind you would go through the door comfortably. See the smile on his face; it would speak volumes about his gratitude that you cared for him.
In our workplace Managers often criticize the sub ordinates and find fault with the work done.
If they care then they ought to also sing praise for the good work done by them.
The moment you do this the guy becomes happy and he goes back with greater enthusiasm and probably would do even better.
Take the case of the security guard at the entrance of the building or office, he is a human being and is doing the job of guarding your installations. Have we ever greeted him, next time do it.
There are theories in management which profess that Motivation keeps people going.
Motivation is nothing but appreciating somebody’s work and urging him to do well.
This is all about good manners.
We as managers should practice being good to our colleagues. The human approach to the work front changes the atmosphere and brings a joy in our workplace. Basically people are conscious about what they do, and who would not want to do things right. Seldom things go wrong either due to factors beyond one’s control and or due to negligence. One has to be prudent in identifying the reasons for a fault or mistake and then evaluates the performance. Very often our emotions get carried away and we tend to get angry and the outcome is abuse. This should be avoided as this would hurt the guy who has committed the mistake.
Human beings are sentimental and they need to be respected for their contributions to the work done by them. If we analyze the failures and dissect the reason and coach the guy who has done wrong this would go a long way to establish a good workplace.
Doing right the first time is propagated as error free method of work, zero defects is a name given to things where every time the work done is correct. Else there is another measure Six Sigma where the errors are measured and should not exceed 6 times in one million incidents of work.
All this has the same message do right the first time.
In order to achieve this motivate people, be sensitive to them, be a coach and not a criticizing manager.

World Printer's Day
World Printer’s Day:
I happened to give a talk on World Printer’s Day on 24.02.10 at a College in Mumbai.
Thank you for giving me an opportunity to be in your midst.
Today is World Printers Day.
What would have happened to this world if John Guttenburg had not invented the Art of Printing?
Everyday along with our breakfast we look forward for our Newspapers in the morning.
There are numerous people behind this to make it happen.
Also we enjoy reading our Popular Magazines every week, fortnight, or monthly.
The Magazines and Newspapers give us wealth of information.
The world has become very small and whatever happens in one corner of the world is reported in the next day’s newspapers.
We keep ourselves abreast with current affairs, new happenings, developments etc thro the print medium.
Printing also gives immense help in the field of education, without books we could not have pursued our studies.
No doubt today in the world of Electronic Media, News has become instantaneous, and one gets to see the happenings around the globe in a matter of few minutes.
Despite the Electronic media taking giant strides, the Print industry has not shown any Decline in its importance to world community.
Print would always be there as the reach by television is not as much as print.
If one goes to the countryside, you can see that people read newspapers but hardly they have the means to possess a TV.
The Printing Industry is a fine example of Teamwork.
The Prepress, Editorial and Marketing people rally together to generate the contents.
The Printing Press churns out the Magazines, books and Newspapers.
The gamut of colours what you see is reproduced by combination of basically 4 Colours in an Offset Machine.
The development of printing industry is very interesting.
Initially we had Sheet Fed Presses, and then came the need for Mass Production so Webs were invented.
The Webs are high-speed machines and they produce 16,32,64 pages depending on the width of the cylinders used. The speeds are mind boggling latest presses can print at 80000 plus speeds.
Everything is automatic like Registration,Web Alignment, inking is remote controlled.
Take the case of Newspapers these are high speed machines with multiple webs and they are able to deliver the complete set of Newspapers with 32 Pages in one shot at speeds of 80000 per hour.
All this is fine, Printing Machines are high Tech, and needs very high investment, it is a capital intensive industry and hence needs huge capital to start.
There is a great challenge ahead for all you youngsters sitting here.
You are the Change agents for future.
Make best use of your time in your college; learn as much as possible now, as it is an opportunity given to you by your parents to learn.
In your colleges you learn the basics about your subject and also you get an opportunity to imbibe the culture of your institution and also learn from your peers, teachers and friends.
Remember what you learn here would enable you to develop new things in future.
Education is not about only about passing exams but it is a development of ones skills for future.
Always have a Goal in life.
You need to have a Vision and Action.
Vision without Action is a Dream, Action without a vision is waste of time, only Vision with Proper Actions can make things happen.
Whatever you vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe and enthusiastically act upon would make things happen.
